Summary:

Did Dark Matter Kill the Dinosaurs?! In this podcast a physicist from Harvard, Lisa Randall, speculates whether the solar system, as it oscillates around the centre of the galaxy, passed through a plane of dark matter which may be on the plane of the galaxy. The resulting disturbances of gravity may have destabilized bodies in the Oort cloud resulting in increased earth impacts, including that which saw off the dinosaurs. Great speculation hindered, or perhaps encouraged, by the fact that we know virtually nothing about the properties of dark matter. You can find more about the theory in her book Dark Matter and the Dinosaurs. This is last years news but I have only just became aware of it and it was too good to pass by.
