Well summer is definitely over – the schools have gone back, it is raining (not that rain distinguishes the season in Manchester, it rains all the time!), and the programme for Manchester Science Festival was launched last week.
So I thought it time to update you with details of events we’ve got coming up this autumn. And we hope you can join us for some of these events, it is always lovely to see both new and familiar faces.
Science Uncovered, Manchester
Friday 29th September is European Researcher’s Night, an evening dedicated to science, and an opportunity for you to meet researchers, find out what we really do, and become a researcher yourself for the evening.
The Manchester Museum will again be hosting Science Uncovered to mark this occasion. The museum will be open after hours with some added extras – researchers from across the University will be showcasing their work through a mixture of research stations hosting hands-on activities, short talks, and story telling. There will also be music and drinks, bringing the museum alive for adults. This is your opportunity to let out the big kid in you and have a go at all those fun activities and experiments that are often dominated by the little kids! And you might even learn something new while you have fun! A Friday night out with a difference!
We will be running our Meteorite Hunt activity over the course of the evening. Come and have a go, how many meteorites can you find? Can you top our leader board? I’m sure Manchester can do better than London did!
This event is only for adults. More details about opening times and booking (free) tickets are available on the Museum’s events page and the Facebook event page
When? Friday 29th September, 17:00 – 22:00.
Where? Manchester Museum, Oxford Road, Manchester, M13 9PL.
Other info – Adults only, free tickets available through Eventbrite
Lets us know you’re coming on the Facebook event page.
Science Spectacular
On Saturday 21st October the University of Manchester will be hosting its annual Science Spectacular, as part of the Manchester Science Festival.
We’ll be joining scientists from all across the University to take over the Manchester Museum and Whitworth Hall with a huge range of science challenges, live experiments and interactive demos.
Drop in any time between 11am and 4pm, but I recommend coming early because there’s so much to do it’ll take you all day!
When? Saturday 21st October, 11:00 – 16:00.
Where? Manchester Museum and Whitworth Hall, Oxford Road, Manchester, M13 9PL.
Other info – Open to all ages, no need to book, drop in any time.
Pi:Meteorite Hunt
We’ll be hunting for meteorites again on Monday 23rd October, this time at the Museum of Science and Industry as part of their series of extra Pi: Platform for Investigation activities during the Manchester Science Festival.
Join us for Pi: Meteorite Hunt in the Museum’s Power Hall. This time the kids can have a go too – Pi activities are aimed at everyone aged 7 or older. So who will find the most meteorites, the parents or the kids? Can your family or group find the most and steal the top spot on the leader board?
When? Monday 23rd October, 10:30 – 16:00.
Where? Museum of Science and Industry, Liverpool Road, Manchester, M3 4FP.
Other info – Open to all ages although some activities are aimed at 7+, no need to book, drop in any time.

Science @ Central
On Wednesday 25th October we’re doing something that is a new Manchester Science Festival event for us – we’re joining the team at Manchester’s Central Library for their Science @ Central event.
Space rocks and books – sounds a good mix to me. Maybe you can find some books about space to take home with you!
When? Wednesday 25th October, 11:00 – 16:00.
Where? Central Library, St Peters Square, Manchester, M2 5PD.
Other info – Open to all ages, no need to book, drop in any time.
