Ok people, this is the stupidest thing ever for Linux.  All of a sudden my usb3 flash disks made a connection and then disconnected.  I searched and searched and found this was happening all the time.  Every time they put in a new kernel.  As usual, the answer is to do million things and suddenly it works. For me, the final thing was the grub configuration.  You change /etc/default grub file
