Back on September 9, 2019 I wrote about Louisville Metro Sewer District (MSD) Waterway Protection Tunnel project and its exhibit that I helped contribute to at the Kentucky Science Center. Well, the boring machine (aka Bumblebee) has completed it journey of about 4 miles under the city. It breached the wall of its extraction hole on September 30, 2020 near Lexington Road and Grinstead Drive. The journey took about 20 months and removed more than 625,000 tons of material.  Congratulations [...]

On the first day of the year 2020, I decided to go look for fossils in a nearby outcrop of Ordovician Period rock. My inspiration for this trip came after reading the year end post at the blog Fossils and Other Living Things. Such a well researched post about Flexicalymene meeki named by August Frederic Foreste (1862-1936) who he named the species after Fielding Bradford Meek (1817-1876).

Today's post is a very interesting set of fossils which I initially did not know what they were. I received an e-mail from the granddaughter of a person who found these specimens in the Estill County, Kentucky  USA. Luckily, Dave at Views of the Mahantango blog was able to identify them as Asterosoma sp., a worm/shrimp? burrow trace fossil. They appear to be from the

I was going through some of my boxes of Devonian material the other day and came across some specimens of coalified wood that I'd found a few years back in Kentucky. The fossils were found at a location where some rock had been dumped as fill. I'd been alerted to the location by a member of the Fossil Forum who'd found a piece of fish bone at the same location. I didn't find any bone but these carbonized impressions were pretty cool so I picked up what I could find. I'd forgotten about them [...]
