The University of Washington (Seattle, WA) invites applications for a postdoctoral Research Associate (Job Class 0148; not a tenure track position). The position has a 12-month term, with the possibility of extending up to one more year. The successful applicant will work under the supervision of Dr. Caroline A.E. Strömberg, the Estella B. Leopold Associate Professor in Biology and Curator of Paleobotany, on the multi-disciplinary Grass Evolution Project. The position is 100% FTE for 12 months [...]
As part of the DFG-funded project Herbivore Niche Differentiation and the Intensification of Competition in African Savannahs, a PhD student position is opened in order to reconstruct and examine rates and modes of morphological change within a phylogenetic framework. This will be approached by examining shape changes in the ruminant skull within an age-calibrated evolutionary and ecological context, with a focus on modes and rates of change in African antelopes (Bovidae). Work will be based on [...]
So the last couple of posts have been a bit of an eclectic mix of open access-y stuff and some of the research I’ve been doing on crocodiles as part of my PhD. This one is gonna be a bit of a change, about research that I recently published following my masters project a couple of years back. Weirdly, this was on the snouts of ruminants, and what they can tell us about their ecology. The whole idea behind the project was to test previous research – to what degree can we use the [...]
The University of Lille (France) may open a three-year PhD position in paleontology beginning in September 2014. Prospective graduate students interested in geometric morphometrics, macroevolution, and evolutionary ecology of marine invertebrates are encouraged to apply. Successful applicants will work and collaborate with several researchers of the paleontological team of the University of Lille. For additional details, see below.Application:* Deadline: the 20th of June* For more information [...]
El ICP organiza un curso sobre Morfometría geométrica en 3D. Tiene muy buena pinta. Os adjuntamos la información y los enlaces. The course is entitled to teach the main concepts of shape analysis based on three-dimensional landmark coordinates. In this course we you will learn to manipulate 3D models and use them to collect landmark data, take measurements, and to quantify and visualize the main differences in shape.Instructor. Melissa Tallman. CUNY/AMNH, New York, USA.Course requirements. [...]
