As Britain exits the European Union, the Arizona Geological Survey is exiting Arizona state government for a new future as a research and service center at the University of Arizona. We have one year of partial transition funding to become entirely self-supporting from grants and fees for services.

<![endif]-->Tucson-based consulting geologist David Briggs published an opinion piece in the Arizona Independent newspaper urging the preservation of the services and products of the Arizona Geological Survey, in response the Gov. Ducey's plan to transfer our duties to the University of Arizona, effective this coming July 1.
David's concluding paragraph states:
Natural capital—the world’s stocks of natural assets that include soil, air, and water—provides us with a great deal of services essential to human life and, increasingly, to companies’ bottom
Routing with Google is quite cool as the database/network is probably the best currently available. But the terms of services limit the possible usage. So what about OpenStreetMap? By figuring out how to use OSM for routing I found it much easier to get routes into QGIS with OSM compared to the Google way. Check it out…. Prerequisites for Routing with OSM: Coordinates Before we will have a look on the routing and getting the web response from OSM into QGIS we need to translate our start [...]
Ecosystems provide numerous benefits and services essential to humankind such as food, fuel and fiber; they help clean the air and water, help control flooding and regulate climate. One increasingly favored way to protect the environment is to establish payments for the services and benefits that ecosystems

You probably know Robin Wilson‘s list of free GIS data which is a great ressource if you search for specific datasets. He also is the creator of a blog concentrated on Python. But Karen Payne publishes a list which is quite impressive as well. The list of geodata links is taken managed using Google Spreadsheets and has more than 1000 links to different portals, data types and services. Unfortunately the categories are not that well structured in my opinion and the list is yet a bit US [...]

Just recently the Geographic Institute of Guatemala launched a new web geoportal for maps of Guatemala. According to an article published by GIM International, the new service, "provides open access to more than 20 thematic layers on topics such as geodesy, vegetation cover, land use, geology, hydrology and road network, among others." Additionally, they report that, "The services use Geoserver and Geoexplorer, and were developed with support from the GeoSUR Program and PAIGH, with funding [...]
As fishing and the harvesting of metals, gas and oil have expanded
deeper and deeper into the ocean, scientists are drawing attention to
the services provided by the deep sea, the world’s largest environment.
“This is the time to discuss deep-sea stewardship before exploitation is
too much farther underway,” says lead-author Andrew Thurber. In a
review published today in
Have you seen “the story maps” created on the ESRI website (http://storymaps.arcgis.com) or for that matter from http://storymap.knightlab.com/ or http://mapstory.org/. They are all frameworks for you to create “a story” with geographic connections, and they achieve this more or less successfully. Common for all of the above are that they are services, depending on the on-line framework. This makes it possible to present a more user friendly experience when you create the story, but at [...]
I needed to rent a roll-off container for non-hazardous waste disposal at a new field site. So I went to the internet to find something, and found mostly services that contracted out to local waste haulers. They were 1. outrageously expensive and 2. had terrible response times.
When I came across a website with the language below, I gave up on the internet method.

I've been reimbursed for meals both by payment for services rendered and by per diem. I think everybody likes the latter - you can hide in your hotel and eat sandwiches, or cook something actually healthy (if you have some sort of facilities for it), or have a big blowout dinner one night. Bonus if you can score a hotel with a happy hour that you can scrounge a full meal from. Also, you
Creating maps is the most appropriate way to present spatial data. In the last years several methods appeared to generate such webmaps. Based on a tile-layer, wich contains all basic map informations such cities, motorways, natural elements etc, even inexperienced computer users can drop their informations with ease. Nevertheless there are some methods and services,

Sorry to talk about this important tool with a little delay.
